Gift to support Glendale Memorial Marcia Ray Breast Center
Made possible by its “Giving Hope a Hand®” breast cancer awareness campaign, Ralphs Grocery Company recently awarded a generous $25,000 donation to Glendale Memorial Health Foundation in support of Glendale Memorial Hospital’s Marcia Ray Breast Center.
Annually, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Ralphs stores and its key suppliers commit to raising funds in support of breast cancer programs in the communities Ralphs serves.
“The importance of this contribution from our friends at Ralphs cannot be overstated,” said Mark Meyers, president of Glendale Memorial Hospital. “Every week the Breast Center at Glendale Memorial screens and treats hundreds of women. Because we are committed to providing the highest degree of technological sophistication, we can detect and treat cancer at its earliest stages, which can save lives.”
The Marcia Ray Breast Center allocated the donated funds toward the remodel of the stereotactic biopsy room and purchase of the new MultiCare Platinum™ breast biopsy system from Hologic. This system provides the most advanced technology available to detect and diagnose breast cancer. The superior computer imaging technology assists physicians in precisely locating the area to biopsy, making it a simple and safe procedure for patients.
“Because breast cancer affects so many of our customers, team members and their families, Ralphs has made a significant commitment to support programs that are focused on finding a cure and raising awareness,” said Mike Donnelly, president of Ralphs. “It is our hope that our donation to the Marcia Ray Breast Center will make a difference in the lives of women with breast cancer.”
This year, the Ralphs’ campaign featured a store-wide sales promotion of popular grocery items with specially marked pink packaging indicating participating products. The inspiring stories of three Ralphs team members who are breast cancer survivors were included on grocery packaging, sold exclusively in Ralphs stores and were featured on a special Web site, www.sharingcourage.com.
As a result of the “Giving Hope a Hand®” campaign, Ralphs was able to donate $290,000 this year for breast cancer initiatives.
The Marcia Ray Breast Center is a full-service breast care facility offering state-of-the-art, low dose radiation screening and diagnostic services. The Breast Center was accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) as a “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” in the areas of mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
