In October of 2021, we piloted a new yearlong internship program for underrepresented college and high school students in our community. The internship provides students with a broad exposure to healthcare through their clinical rotations in various departments in the hospital and out-patient settings. Students observe the various fields and professions that collaborate to provide patient-centered care.
Throughout 5 cohorts, over 130 students have already graduated from the internship program. We are extremely fortunate to be a part of their journey. By encouraging, supporting, and inspiring the next generation of diverse healthcare professionals, we will increase access to care for diverse community members in the years to come. We see this not only as an opportunity to embrace our core value of Inclusion but also as a way to support long-term health equity.
Our next step is to enhance our internship alumni network and develop a scholarship fund for college and high school intern alumni who need financial assistance for application fees and test prep courses to continue their healthcare professions journey. At this time, we are seeking support for this alumni scholarship fund.
